Be a Prayer Advocate
|
"My intercessor is my friend as my eyes pour out tears to God; on behalf of a man he pleads with God as a man pleads for his friend." (Job 16:20.21)
Intercessory prayer is a ministry, an act of obedience, an opportunity to fulfill one’s purpose by allowing the Holy Spirit to work through you. Intercession for another in prayer entails a great deal of responsibility. God seeks those who are faithful to intercede. “The Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.” (Psalm 14:2) In Genesis 18:23-32, God would not have destroyed Sodom because of Abraham’s persistence, if he had only been able to find 10 righteous men in the city. “I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.” (Ezekiel 22:30) Intercessory prayer is more than just praying. It bears a sense of responsibility and burden. The following are the characteristics of someone who intercedes for others: faith, selflessness, patience, persistence, love and compassion.
This is a ministry centered on the needs of others. Better than gold, it is a commitment to pray – a promise to pray for others. “I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure, just a gold and silver are refined and purified by fire. They will call on my name, and I will answer them, I will say, ‘These are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.” Praying for others is a special act of love. It takes not money, no education, no status, only a willingness to talk to God on behalf of another.
Christ said, “…if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!”
