Anne-Marie

“And here is how to measure it – the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends.”     John 15.13

Anne-Marie is a doctor working in Haiti with her husband Rob. The are the only missionaries in the remote area serving more than 1 million people.

Haiti is already a poor country; Anne-Marie and her husband live in an extremely poor area.  “We see malnourished children on a daily basis.  If a mother is still alive we then try to admit them both, give them food and follow up.  If the mother died, then we have a problem.  Fathers most of the time take off and leave the children with a grandparent who is not able to care for them.  One by one they become sick and often die.”

“During the 7 years we have lived and work here, we have taken several children into our home.  We give them attention and love.  We have not been able to save all of them, and with every child we lose our hearts are crushed, but every child still alive and healthy we are ever so grateful.  “

“Many of the children and mothers die from lack of food, they literally starve to death. “  Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.  The average per capita income is $270 per year.  The UN designated Haiti the world’s third hungriest nation, after Somalia and Afghanistan.  The average Haitian depends on small-scale subsistence farming in land that is mostly mountainous and rough.  There is widespread unemployment.

“Under construction, our hospital is already full.  In three days our medical team saw 1,000 patients.”

“It is such a blessing to start the day with devotion together with the patients.  What a blessing to be able to speak openly about Christ.”

Our hearts were moved by the humility of this couple.  Selflessly they have given their lives to serve the poorest of the poor.  Their reward will definitely be found in heaven. A Greater Love for Souls was able to send $1,000 to buy food for the starving.  We are working to obtain needed medicines and baby formula.

Anne-Marie and Rob try to provide medical care for 1 million people.  Voodoo has a substantial influence on the local people.  There are local churches but when problems arise voodoo is almost the first thing they will try to find a solution.  At the hospital and clinic they have e devotions every day.  There is a great amount of darkness

Typical is the fourteen year old girl who recently died of malaria and anemia.  Her father (3 wives and 23 children) is extremely poor.  Most of the children suffer from malnutrition.
